חפירה חוזית, מהי?
Contract archaeology (often called “rescue” or “salvage” archaeology) is archaeological survey and excavation carried out, under commercial contract, in areas threatened by, or revealed by, construction or other development. Such development may include dams, highway projects, major construction, cable laying or even before the onset of war operations. Unlike traditional survey and excavation, rescue archaeology must be undertaken at speed. Rescue archaeology is included in the broader category of "Cultural resource management" cultural resource management (CRM)".
Rescue archaeology occurs on sites about to be destroyed but on occasion may include in situ preservation of any finds, or protective measures taken to preserve an unexcavated site beneath a building, for example. Urban areas with many overlaid years of habitation are often candidates for rescue archaeology.
The focus of early work was in setting up organisations that could undertake 'rescue' excavations in the teeth of the bulldozer. Archaeologists relied on the goodwill of the developer to provide the opportunity to record remains. In more recent use, an archaeological survey may be required by planning process or building law (link to law). Contract or commercial archaeology services have sprung up to meet the needs of developers to comply with local laws and planning regulations.

י.ג. ארכיאולוגיה חוזית בע"מ – ייעוץ וחפירות ארכיאולוגיות
חברת י.ג.ארכיאולוגיה חוזית בע"מ היא חברה פרטית, שנוסדה בשנת 1996 ע"י הארכיאולוג יהודה גוברין. החברה היתה הראשונה שהוקמה בארץ על מנת להעניק שירותים ארכיאולוגיים מגוונים: ייעוץ, סקרים, חפירות בדיקה, חפירות הצלה, שימור ושיחזור, ייזום תיירותי ארכיאולוגי, הדרכה ופרוייקטים בתחום החינוך הארכיאולוגי. החברה פועלת תחת החסות האקדמית של המכון למקרא ולעתיקות ע"ש נלסון גליק, היברו יוניון קולג'-ירושלים ומנהלה ד"ר דוד אילן משמש כיועץ מדעי לפרויקטים השונים.
מטרת החברה לייעץ ולעזור ליזמים, קבלנים וגורמים מפתחים אחרים לבצע עבודות פיתוח ותשתית בעת הימצאותם של שרידים ארכיאולוגיים. החברה היא גוף בבעלות פרטית ומבצעת פרוייקטים ארכיאולוגיים באופן מקצועי ובלתי תלוי תוך מיזעור נזק כספי הכרוך בהם, קיצור הליכים בקבלת אישורים וביצוע העבודה בזמן הקצר ביותר.
בהיותה של ארצנו עשירה ביותר בשרידים ארכיאולוגים, נוצר לא פעם קונפליקט בין היזמים והגורמים המפתחים לבין רשות העתיקות, הגוף הממשלתי הממונה על אכיפת חוק העתיקות.
חוק זה מאפשר לרשות העתיקות לעצור כל פעולת פיתוח העשויה לפגוע בעתיקות. כתוצאה מכך, נעצרים פרויקטים בהם נחשפות עתיקות, ולמפתחים והיזמים נגרם נזק כלכלי רב ועיכוב בלוחות הזמנים לביצוע הפרוייקטים השונים. בנוסף, נדרש היזם או הגורם המפתח לממן מכספו את חפירות ההצלה.
חב' יג.ארכיאולוגיה חוזית בע"מ, ביצעה עד כה עשרות חפירות ארכיאולוגיות בכל רחבי הארץ.
לכל חפירה נבחר צוות ארכיאולוגי מקצועי יעודי בהתאם לאופיה, תקופתה ומיקומה של החפירה.
החברה מספקת את כל האמצעים הנדרשים לביצועה התקין של החפירה לרבות כלי עבודה, כח אדם, חומרים ועוד. ממצאי החפירות עוברים תהליכי עיבוד ופרסום במעבדות מקצועיות עד להכנת דו"ח חפירה סופי.
כשבוע מתום החפירה, מעבירה החברה הן ליזם/מפתח והן לרשות העתיקות דו"ח ארכיאולוגי ראשוני, המשמש לצורך הנפקת אישור לשחרור השטח לפיתוח.

The below descriptions are brief accounts of the salvage work carried out by Y.G. Archaeology under the academic auspices of the NGSBA. More extensive accounts will be made available when field work has been completed—in the form of a report to the client and the IAA. Following lab analysis and interpretation, the final stage will entail detailed publication. Small-scale projects will usually be published here on the website. Larger-scaled projects will often be published in print as well. In such cases, links will be provided to pdf files of these reports.
